Joseph Helman

Dr. Helman is the C. J. Lyons Endowed Professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, concurrent professor, School of Medicine, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, and honorary professor at Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, Nanjing Medical University and Harbin University. He is also the External Examiner for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Hong Kong University. He is the chair of the Research Committee for the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and serves on the Special Committee on Maxillofacial Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery for the AAOMS, as well as serving as the representative of AAOMS in the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncological Societies. He is a prolific author and world-wide lecturer.

Dr. Helman is a graduate of the Universidad Nacional De Rosario in Rosario, Argentina and did his residency at Rambam Medical Center, Technion University in Israel. He was a recipient of the Fogarty International Fellowship at NIDCR for the National Institutes of Health, an Honorary Fellow of the Chalmers Lyons Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, S. Elmer Bear Visiting Professor, Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, the Presidential Award of the AAOMS and the Presidential speaker for the British Association of Head and Neck Oncology.  Dr. Helman has a global reputation, his expertise is sought out by national and international scientific organizations that invite him to present on surgical treatment of sleep apnea syndrome, oral cancer, and maxillofacial reconstruction.  Dr. Helman is committed to his research of clinical outcome measures in the management of odontogenic keratocysts, success rates in the surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, maxillofacial findings on patients with nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome and maxillofacial oncology and reconstructive surgery.
